Electrophysiology (cell, slice and whole animal)

This methodology offers direct real-time measurements of neuronal cell function and cell–cell communication. A variety of intra–and extracellular recording techniques, both in vivo and in vitro (tissue slices) coupled with discrete electrical stimulation and drug iontophoresis, can provide important mechanistic insight into drug action on selected ion channel targets, as well as, on synaptic transmission and intrinsic excitability in preparations where the neuroanatomy and micro-circuitry is preserved. PsychoGenics has also set up a drug screening technology (Dynaflow) that enables high–resolution functional discrimination between chemically related compounds, supporting hit-to-lead campaigns (see the figure below).
