This test measures rearing and climbing induced by apomorphine. The test has predictive validity for antipsychotic drugs that normalize the hyperactivity and stereotypic behavior. Antipsychotic agents decrease rearing and climbing behaviors in mice.
Atypical (clozapine, raclopride) and typical (haloperidol) antipsychotics attenuate apomorphine-induced rearing and climbing behavior in C3H/HeJ mice.

Anti-manic compounds in PPI 8
As noted above, pre-pulse inhibition is enhanced by the administration of antipsychotic medications such as clozapine or haloperidol. Similarly, administration of valproate, lithium or lamotrigine enhances PPI in mice. Therefore, PPI provides a preclinical screen for potential therapeutic compounds for the treatment of bipolar disorder.
