Open Positions

Senior Research Associate, Surgery/Behavioral Pharmacology

We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Research Associate in behavioral neuroscience.  The successful candidate will work in a team of scientists and researchers supporting preclinical studies using rodent models and tests.  The main responsibilities of the candidate will include, but are not limited to, conducting preclinical research primarily in the area of pain, and other behavioral assays as needed. The candidate will be responsible for surgeries and/or behavioral studies, proper execution of experiments, and preliminary data analysis. The candidate must be capable of working across teams and independently.  

Main Responsibilities: 

  • Execution of rodent studies in behavioral pharmacology, including pain-related endpoints (e.g., von Frey filaments, dynamic weight bearing, guarding behavior) and behavioral testing (e.g., rotarod, Irwin observation) 
  •  Execution of rodent surgeries in relevant studies, especially established pain models (e.g., Brennan, spinal nerve ligation) 
  • Preliminary experimental data analysis and drafting of study reports 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in life sciences, neuroscience, or psychology   
  • 5+ years of laboratory and behavioral experience with rats  
  • 2 – 3 years minimum experience with extensive and relevant rat surgeries and/or with a variety of behavioral tests with rats, including pain models and their endpoints 
  • Rat dosing experience (IP, SC, PO, etc.) 
  • Able to work well in a group atmosphere as well as independently 
  • Good organizational and troubleshooting skills

Research Associate 3 / Sr Research Associate 1, Behavioral Pharmacology

Overview of Position: 

We are looking for a highly motivated Researcher in behavioral neuroscience. The successful candidate will work in a team of scientists and researchers supporting the preclinical studies using rodent models and tests. The primary responsibilities of the candidate will include, but are not limited to, conducting preclinical research of drug abuse liability, pain, cognition, and other assays as needed. The candidate will be responsible for behavioral studies and/or surgeries, proper execution of experiments and preliminary data analysis. The candidate must be capable of working both across teams and independently. 

Main Responsibilities: 

  • Execution of rodent studies in behavioral pharmacology assays
  • Execution of rodent surgeries in relevant studies
  • Preliminary experimental data analysis and creating draft study report

Required Qualifications:

VP Research Operations

Main Responsibilities: 

  • Restructure the Research Operations with input from CEO and PGI Executives in order to better utilize the capabilities of staff in a matrix structure  
  • Expand on our core capabilities and apply staff and resources to projects across functional groups based on expertise and availability  
  • Cross train staff to help increase the efficiency of the operation  
  • Together with CEO, meet with employees on regular basis to help them understand the goals of the work and the future direction of the company as a whole 
  • Using schedule It and Asana along with the project management operation, ensure we make efficient use of resources
  • Review employee performance, recommend salary bonus and other incentives, and set up comprehensive goals for future performance and growth  
  • Meet with executives as needed and attend weekly contract and drug discovery meetings to understand the priorities and pipeline 
  • Oversee daily operations of the company (with kick off meetings, assigning timelines, tracking the workflow, and assigning staff to testing and reporting as needed), to ensure deliverables are provided to clients on time  
  • Work with IT, Research, Business Development, Finance, HR etc to ensure the operation flows smoothly 
  • Work with Finance to evaluate performance by contract and employee analyzing and interpreting data and metrics 
  • Participate in expansion activities, eg facility buildout or raising money
  • Help develop and maintain external relationships with scientists in industry and academia, especially those who can support the research programs 
  • Represent PGI in the scientific community through publication in leading scientific journals and presentation/attendance at scientific conferences 
  • Serve as a key member of PGI’s Executive Committee and attend regular Executive Committee meetings, Scientific Advisory Board and Board of Directors meetings as requested 
  • Perform other tasks for PGI as directed by CEO or Chairman  

Qualifications: 

  • MS/PhD degree in scientific, business, operations or related discipline 
  • 10+ years of related experience in a scientific or project management role, preferably in a CRO 
  • Previous management/supervisory experience 
  • Ability to simultaneously manage multiple responsibilities and priorities 
  • Previous success as a team leader and motivator, with excellent verbal and written communication and organization skills

Research Associate / In Vitro Electrophysiologist

We are seeking an in vitro electrophysiologist with experience in preparing and recording from rodent brain slices. Familiarity with preparing brain slices, LTP paradigms, and synaptic plasticity is required. Patch-clamp expertise would also be highly valued, as well as a working understanding of both neuroanatomy and neuropharmacology.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum three years’ experience in an electrophysiology lab
  • Bachelors degree in related discipline
  • Willingness and ability to work independently and as part of a team

Research Associate / Histotechnician

Main Responsibilities: 

  • Work with biological samples (human and animal origin) and be able to embed and section them on a cryostat and a microtome 
  • Perform immunohistochemical staining, and image and analyze the samples 
  • Maintain detailed documentation of procedures and results 
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and preparation of reagents 
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to support project specific needs 
  • Daily maintenance of laboratory, including the receipt and unpacking of reagents, cleaning of work surfaces, and routine ordering 

Skills Required: 

  • Possess a wide range of knowledge in histology laboratory techniques

Project Manager

Overview of Position:   

An experienced life sciences Project Manager who will be responsible for supporting cross-functional efforts for contract studies at PsychoGenics.  

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Develop, maintain, track and manage project milestones and deliverables 
  • Communicate, document and archive project team activities, risks, milestones, deliverables and decisions 
  • Work in partnership with project team members to develop and identify risks and opportunities and execute on project plan and strategy 
  • Ensure alignment within project teams 
  • Act as a primary contact for project team-related information 
  • Oversee and prepare project team budget including resources and costs, collaborating with Finance and other cross-functional departments 
  • Actively facilitate project team meetings (including the preparation of meeting agendas, minutes, and follow-up on action items), cross-functional communication and decision making, ensuring alignment with internal and external stakeholders 
  • Prepare routine and/or ad hoc project status/dashboard reports, and maintain project team data repositories 
  • Participate in implementing improvements to project management processes, tools and infrastructure to ensure ongoing efficiency across the company

The candidate will be responsible for surgeries, tissue collection and drug administration, proper execution of experiments, and preliminary data analysis. The candidate must be capable of working across teams and independently. 

Main Responsibilities: 

  • Execution of rodent surgeries in relevant studies, especially established pain models (e.g., Brennan, spinal nerve ligation), drug administration through various routes and multiple tissue collections (CFS, Plasma, brain, kidney etc.) 
  • Participating the development and improvement of surgical and tissue collecting procedures 
  • Preliminary experimental data analysis and drafting of study reports

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in life sciences, neuroscience, or psychology   
  • 5+ years of laboratory experience with rats and/or mice

Director / Sr. Director - Drug Discovery

Overview of Position:  

We are seeking a Director / Senior Director in the discovery group who is a highly motivated scientist to join our team and work on-site at PsychoGenics in Paramus, New Jersey. The ideal candidate will possess broad expertise in neuroscience drug discovery and neuropharmacology, and will help drive internal small molecule drug discovery programs through designing appropriate preclinical studies towards clinical proof-of-concept and support the efforts of our partners. The qualified candidate will bring extensive knowledge in behavioral neuroscience and drug development to the scientific team and will report to the CSO. 

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Collaborate with the drug discovery group and key stakeholders to advance molecules from hit identification to preclinical candidate and eventually to clinical candidate status 
  • Design, execute and manage internal research projects 
  • Work with both internal and external research groups and manage the work of collaborators and CROs 
  • Develop new preclinical behavioral strategies to advance promising therapeutics into the clinic 
  • Develop scientific understanding and fluency of PsychoGenics SmartCube platform and work closely with the team to identify new disease/project opportunities that can be translated into new drug discovery projects. 
  • Interpret, summarize, and present research findings at internal and external scientific meetings 
  • Present project deliverables, budget, and timelines to executive management 

Educational and Experience Requirements: 

  • PhD degree in a biological discipline, ideally in neuroscience or pharmacology 
  • Minimum 10 years of multi-disciplinary experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry with knowledge of cross-functional drug discovery in CNS indications 
  • Experience in taking a program from concept to the clinic 
  • Deep understanding of classical pharmacological principles and the drug discovery process 
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented scientist with exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills
