Open Positions

Research Associate - Neurodegeneration Group

Main Responsibilities:

  • Primary tasks performed on a daily basis in mice will include Test Article dosing using various routes of administration (IP, SC, IV, PO), behavioral testing, tissue collection (anatomical dissection of brain region, along with peripheral organs and muscles) and data handling (graphing and analyzing data).
  • Understanding of and compliance with company SOPs and IACUC guidelines as well as safety and quality assurance standards related to the assigned work.
  • Follow proper protocol and safety procedures, as well as question and/or report any deviations to study protocols.

Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in the biological sciences, neuroscience, or related field.
  • Minimum one years of experience in handling and dosing of rodents in a laboratory setting.
  • Organizational, multi-tasking, trouble-shooting and deductive reasoning skills required, along with a willingness and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be willing to work in a dynamic fast-paced environment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Occasional weekend and holiday work will be required.

Part-Time CLIA Health Care Professional

Responsibilities:

  • Serve the CLIA licensed clinical laboratory on a regular part-time basis related to SARS-CoV-2 testing, in support of PsychoGenics Inc. employee health services.
  • The health care specialist is responsible for specimen collection of SARS-CoV-2 samples for testing.
  • Follow the laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and maintaining pre-analytical patient records.
  • Adhere to the laboratory’s quality control policies, and document quality control activities as needed.
  • Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results to either correct the identified problem or immediately notify the Laboratory Supervisor, or Laboratory Director.
  • Reports to the Laboratory Supervisor.

Qualification:

  • Performs high complexity test sample collection procedures as authorized by the Laboratory Director/Clinical Consultant, requiring a degree of skill commensurate with the individual’s education, training or experience, and technical abilities.
  • The health care specialist must have at a minimum, a high school degree and training in proper specimen collection of oropharyngeal swab samples.

Research Associate – Immunohistochemistry

Main Responsibilities:

  • Work with biological samples (human and animal origin) and be able to embed and section them on a cryostat and a microtome
  • Perform immunohistochemical staining, and image and analyze the samples
  • Maintain detailed documentation of procedures and results
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and preparation of reagents
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to support project specific needs
  • Daily maintenance of laboratory, including the receipt and unpacking of reagents, cleaning of work surfaces, and routine ordering

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences with minimum 2 years of relevant experience in histology, anatomy, or related field
  • Basic knowledge of microscopes and digital slide scanner
  • Extensive knowledge of basic staining procedures, and other techniques
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, work under supervision and exercise good judgement
  • Ability to function in fast-paced, high growth work environment
  • Excellent communication, organizational skills, and attention to detail

Laboratory Operations Specialist

Overview of Position: 

The Laboratory Operations Specialist is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day tasks that keep the laboratories at PsychoGenics functioning efficiently.  Responsibilities will include handling shipping requests and sample receipt, managing stock inventory and supply ordering, managing biological sample and compound repositories, and maintaining records for scheduled equipment maintenance.  The position will receive close guidance from Operations staff and management and is expected to operate resourcefully under moderate supervision. 

  Main Responsibilities: 

  • Receive stock orders and fulfill them internally 
  • Order lab supplies from outside vendors based on need 
  • Maintain and organize lab supplies 
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date supply inventory 
  • Organize and maintain records for annual equipment calibrations including pipettes, balances, etc.
  • Assist in sample receiving from clients and vendors 
  • Assist in shipping items and samples to clients under various shipping conditions 
  • Track lab sample lifecycles and assist with sample deposition 
  • Organize and manage compound repository 
  • Maintain accurate records to track orders from vendors and inventory receipt 
  • Other tasks to assist lab personnel as needed 

    

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or related field, or 3-4 years of experience in a laboratory environment required  
  • A strong attention to detail and proficiency using Microsoft Excel, Word, and Office required  
  • A strong work ethic and ability to adapt to changes required   
  • Knowledge of hazardous material deposition is preferred but not required 
  • Experience related to inventory management or supply chain is highly preferred

CLIA Lab Supervisor

Main Responsibilities: 

  • Administer the technical and scientific operation of the molecular biology laboratory including the reporting of findings of laboratory COVID-19 tests 
  • Direct and supervise the technical performance of the staff 
  • Be readily available for personal or telephone consultation  
  • Responsible for the proper performance of all tests made in the laboratory 
  • Responsible for the employment of qualified laboratory personnel and their in-service training  
  • Arrange for qualified substitute director when absent  
  • Supervise clinical laboratory related to SARS-CoV-2 PCR testing 
  • Participation as both “Technical” and “General” supervisor 
  • Assist in maintaining PsychoGenics CLIA certification 
  • Is present during all hours in which testing is performed 
  • Reports to the Laboratory Director  

  Qualifications: 

Laboratory Supervisor shall meet one of the following three requirements

  • Is a physician, or has earned a doctoral degree from an accredited institution with a major in one of the chemical, physical, or biological sciences and subsequent to graduations has at least 2 years of experience in one of the laboratory specialties in an approved clinical laboratory.  NOTE: NJ Lab Director’s license is not required. 
  • Holds a master’s degree from an accredited institution with a major in one of the chemical, physical, or biological sciences and subsequent to graduation has at least 4 years of pertinent full-time laboratory experience of which not less than 2 years has been spent working in the designated laboratory specialty in an approved clinical laboratory.
  • Is qualified as a clinical laboratory technologist  and subsequent to the date of qualifying as a clinical laboratory technologist, has at least 6 years of pertinent full-time laboratory experience of which not less than 2 years has been spent working in the designated laboratory specialty in an approved clinical laboratory. 

Proficiency in running PCR tests and/or immunohistochemistry experience required.
