Open Positions

Director / Sr. Director, Drug Discovery

Overview of Position:  

We are seeking a Director / Senior Director in the discovery group who is a highly motivated scientist to join our team and work on-site at PsychoGenics in Paramus, New Jersey. The ideal candidate will possess broad expertise in neuroscience drug discovery and neuropharmacology, and will help drive internal small molecule drug discovery programs through designing appropriate preclinical studies towards clinical proof-of-concept and support the efforts of our partners. The qualified candidate will bring extensive knowledge in behavioral neuroscience and drug development to the scientific team and will report to the CSO. 

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Collaborate with the drug discovery group and key stakeholders to advance molecules from hit identification to preclinical candidate and eventually to clinical candidate status 
  • Design, execute and manage internal research projects 
  • Work with both internal and external research groups and manage the work of collaborators and CROs 
  • Develop new preclinical behavioral strategies to advance promising therapeutics into the clinic 
  • Develop scientific understanding and fluency of PsychoGenics SmartCube platform and work closely with the team to identify new disease/project opportunities that can be translated into new drug discovery projects. 
  • Interpret, summarize, and present research findings at internal and external scientific meetings 
  • Present project deliverables, budget, and timelines to executive management 

Educational and Experience Requirements: 

  • PhD degree in a biological discipline, ideally in neuroscience or pharmacology 
  • Minimum 10 years of multi-disciplinary experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry with knowledge of cross-functional drug discovery in CNS indications 
  • Experience in taking a program from concept to the clinic 
  • Deep understanding of classical pharmacological principles and the drug discovery process 
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented scientist with exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills 
  • Creative, open minded critical thinker 
  • Ability to critically analyze and interpret data, and effectively document and communicate results and recommend next steps

Animal Care Technician

Main Responsibilities: 

  • Review, comprehend, and comply with all SOPs, IACUC policies, safety, and quality assurance standards related to assigned work area.  
  • Daily husbandry of the rodents in the vivarium to include the provision of feed, water, clean cages, and enrichment. 
  • Basic sanitation and maintenance of colony rooms to include sweeping and mopping of animal quarters, rotating animal cages, racks and room supplies for cleaning according to schedule, disinfecting all areas in room.  
  • Monitor the health of the animals and report any sick or dead to the PVC and room lab contact staff.  
  • Receive and house shipments of animals. 
  • Bedding sample collection for sentinels; assist with sentinel program procedures as needed.  
  • Maintain accurate documentation records as required; including room logs.  
  • Monitor room conditions including temperature, humidity, room and rack airflow, and lighting; with timely reporting of any issues to facilities.  
  • Maintain adequate PPE, PVC kit, and other common room supplies by monitoring levels, and restocking as required.  
  • Monitoring of animal health, and perform procedures such as teeth trims, antibiotic treatments, animal handling, euthanasia, and other simple procedures as certified trained and as required.  
  • Ensure availability to work on weekends and holidays as required. 
  • Regularly lift up to 50 pounds and move heavy equipment in a safe manner, and have the ability to stand, bend, reach, or crouch while working. 

Qualifications: 

  • Ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds and move heavy equipment in a safe manner. 
  • Ability to regularly stand, bend, reach, or crouch while working. 
  • Strong communication skills interacting with vivarium management and research staff. 
  • Availability to work on weekends and holidays as required to maintain compliance in animal care and use, providing oversight of animals 24/7. 
  • High school diploma or GED required. 
  • Experience in a laboratory animal facility strongly preferred. 
  • Achieve ALAT certification after 1 year of employment.

Scientist

Overview of Position:  

Provide scientific support of a NIH contract over a period of 5 years. Responsible for scientific related tasks as well as data QC, report writing and data analysis.  

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Provide guidance and hands-on assistance on new test development  
  • Prepare study reports and presentation materials and other related SOPs as needed  
  • Write scientific reports (including data analysis) 
  • QC deliverables 
  • Participate in weekly calls and face to face meetings with PIs and NIH regarding status of Task Order and deliverables 

Qualifications: 

  • PhD degree in behavioral neuroscience, pharmacology or related discipline 
  • Experience in preclinical behavioral neuroscience  
  • Experience in pain research strongly preferred 
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office required 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and organization skills 
  • Demonstrated independent analytical and problem-solving abilities 
  • Knowledge of regulations 
  • Ability to interact appropriately with all levels of employees and work effectively as a member of a team

Research Associate 2/Research Associate 3 - Behavioral Pharmacology

Overview of Position: 

We are looking for a highly motivated Research Associate in behavioral neuroscience. The successful candidate will work in a team of scientists and researchers supporting the preclinical studies using rodent models and tests.  The primary responsibilities of the candidate will include, but are not limited to, conducting preclinical research of drug abuse liability, pain, cognition, and other assays as needed. The candidate will be responsible for behavioral studies and/or surgeries, proper execution of experiments and preliminary data analysis. The candidate must be capable of working both across teams and independently. 

Main Responsibilities: 

  • Execution of rodent studies in behavioral pharmacology pain assays  
  • Execution of rodent surgeries in relevant studies  
  • Preliminary experimental data analysis and creating draft study report 

Required Qualifications: 

  • A Bachelors or Masters degree in life sciences, neuroscience, or psychology  
  • 2+ years of laboratory and behavioral experience with rats and/or mice 
  • Dosing experience (IP, SC, PO, etc.) 
  • Knowledge of pain assays and/or surgical skills desirable 
  • Able to work well in a group atmosphere as well as independently 
  • Good organization and troubleshooting skills 
  • High level of commitment, excellent motivation to perform and to learn

Senior Research Associate, Surgery/Behavioral Pharmacology

We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Research Associate in behavioral neuroscience.  The successful candidate will work in a team of scientists and researchers supporting preclinical studies using rodent models and tests.  The main responsibilities of the candidate will include, but are not limited to, conducting preclinical research primarily in the area of pain, and other behavioral assays as needed. The candidate will be responsible for surgeries and/or behavioral studies, proper execution of experiments, and preliminary data analysis. The candidate must be capable of working across teams and independently. 

Main Responsibilities: 

  • Execution of rodent surgeries in relevant studies, especially established pain models (e.g., Brennan, spinal nerve ligation) and/or execution of rodent studies in behavioral pharmacology, including pain-related endpoints (e.g., Von Frey filaments, dynamic weight bearing, guarding behavior) and behavioral testing (e.g., rotarod, Irwin observation)  
  • Preliminary experimental data analysis and drafting of study reports 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in life sciences, neuroscience, or psychology   
  • 5+ years of laboratory and behavioral experience with rats and/or mice 
  • 2 – 3 years minimum experience with extensive and relevant rodent surgeries and/or with a variety of behavioral tests with rats and mice, including pain models and their endpoints, is preferred 
  • Rodent dosing experience (IP, SC, PO, etc.) 
  • Able to work well in a group atmosphere as well as independently 
  • Good organizational and troubleshooting skills 
  • High level of commitment, excellent motivation to perform and learn 
  • Able to comprehend and comply with all SOP and IACUC, safety and quality assurance protocols
