Research Associate

Overview of Position:   

We are looking for a highly motivated Researcher in our neuropharmacology group.  The successful candidate will work in a team of scientists and researchers supporting preclinical studies using rodent models. The primary responsibilities of the candidate will include, but are not limited to, dosing animals, conducting behavioral assessments, and dissection and tissue collection. The candidate will be responsible for coordinating studies and the proper execution of experiments. The candidate must be capable of working both across teams and independently. 

Job Responsibilities:  Tasks performed with rodents may include: 

  • Test article dosing using various routes of administration (IP, SC, PO)  
  • Behavioral testing; learning and memory, anxiety, and/or motor assessments 
  • Tissue collection (anatomical dissection of brain region, along with peripheral organs and muscles)  
  • Data handling (graphing and analyzing data) 
  • Study coordination (preparing run sheets and mix sheets, creating shipping manifests)  

Required Qualifications:

Project Manager

An experienced life sciences Project Manager who will be responsible for supporting cross-functional efforts for contract studies in the Behavioral Pharmacology group at PsychoGenics.  

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Develop, maintain, track and manage project milestones and deliverables 
  • Communicate, document and archive project team activities, risks, milestones, deliverables and decisions

Research Associate 1, Pharmacology/SmartCube

This position is for a Research Associate for the Behavioral Pharmacology / SmartCube group at PsychoGenics, working primarily with mice (level of Research Associate commensurate with experience). 

Main responsibilities:  

Primary tasks performed on a daily basis include but are not limited to: 

  • Compound weighing and formulation 
  • Compound dosing using various routes of administration, occasional rat dosing 
  • Behavioral testing with hardware maintenance 
  • Data handling, tissue collection, and colony maintenance 
  • Review, comprehend and comply with all SOP’s and IACUC, safety and quality assurance standards related to assigned work area at all times 

Required qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in the biological sciences preferably related to behavior, pharmacology or psychology

Cage Wash Technician 1

Cage Wash (CW) Technician position in support of PsychoGenics (PGI) vivarium operations. CW tasks are performed in compliance with PGI Animal Care and Use Program Description, according to Animal Welfare regulations, AAALAC International standard, PHS OLAW Assurance, and NJS regulations.  

Main Responsibilities: 

  • Adhere to and comply with established standard operating procedures related to assigned work area.  
  • Maintain cage wash operations in meeting daily workload requirements, to include cleaning and preparing animal cages, providing caging supplies filling cage and caging supply requests, and maintaining other vivarium equipment for use and cleaning processes.  
  • Operate cage wash, bottle washer, water filtration systems, autoclave, and floor scrubbing machines properly following safety guidelines.  
  • Maintain and sanitize cage wash equipment and machines, cleanliness of cage wash rooms, and cleaning and sanitization of assigned vivarium areas.  
  • Maintain adequate personal protective equipment, and room supplies in work area by monitoring levels, and restocking as required.  
  • Assist with environmental monitoring, and pest control programs.  
  • Maintain accurate work area documentation, and room logs, vivarium experimental rooms, and support areas, monitor room conditions including temperature, humidity, and lighting as required.  
  • Assist in some rodent animal husbandry tasks as required, such as receive shipments of animals, receipt of food and bedding and other vivarium supplies, pack and dispose of vivarium waste, and euthanasia procedures as required.

Animal Care Technician 1

Main Responsibilities: 

  • Review, comprehend, and comply with all SOPs, IACUC policies, safety, and quality assurance standards related to assigned work area.  
  • Daily husbandry of the rodents in the vivarium to include the provision of feed, water, clean cages, and enrichment. 
  • Basic sanitation and maintenance of colony rooms to include sweeping and mopping of animal quarters, rotating animal cages, racks and room supplies for cleaning according to schedule, disinfecting all areas in room.  
  • Monitor the health of the animals and report any sick or dead to the PVC and room lab contact staff.  
  • Receive and house shipments of animals. 
  • Bedding sample collection for sentinels; assist with sentinel program procedures as needed.  
  • Maintain accurate documentation records as required; including room logs.  
  • Monitor room conditions including temperature, humidity, room and rack airflow, and lighting; with timely reporting of any issues to facilities.  
  • Maintain adequate PPE, PVC kit, and other common room supplies by monitoring levels, and restocking as required.  
  • Monitoring of animal health, and perform procedures such as teeth trims, antibiotic treatments, animal handling, euthanasia, and other simple procedures as certified trained and as required.

Senior Scientist, Drug Discovery

Overview of Position:   

We are seeking a Scientist – Senior Scientist in the discovery group to join our team and work on-site at PsychoGenics in Paramus, New Jersey. The ideal candidate will possess broad expertise in drug discovery and specifically neuropharmacology and will provide in vitro pharmacology support for our small molecule drug discovery programs. The qualified candidate will have a broad knowledge of in vitro assays to support GPCR, ion channel and enzyme drug discovery targets.  

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Collaborate with the drug discovery group and key stakeholders to support in vitro assays to help advance molecules from hit identification to preclinical candidate status, either through establishing key in vitro assays in house or through external providers

Computational Chemist

Overview: 

Exceptional scientist with extraordinary records of academic and professional achievements sought to join our interdisciplinary team of biologists, medicinal chemists, and computer scientists to expand the group’s efforts applying computational chemistry and research cheminformatics methods including machine learning techniques to drug discovery. This position will be responsible for initiating, executing, and advancing scientific research and development opportunities that are critical for the drug discovery pipelines.    

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Support and enhance the existing cheminformatics pipelines and help develop new ones including identification of necessary platforms and establishments of APIs and protocols for data transfer and management.  
  • Lead specific efforts to integrate PGI SmartCube data with third party’s new molecule design platforms 
  • Develop cutting-edge Cheminformatics computational methods 
  • Build predictive Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationship (QSAR) models to support drug discovery projects  
  • Support Hit identification, Lead Generation, and Lead Optimization with data analyses and molecule selections 
  • Evaluate emerging Computational Chemistry, Cheminformatics, and Data Science technologies and integrate them with the current pipelines

  • Experience in large scale data curation, data cleaning, data mining, data analysis projects 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are required. 
  • Familiarity with computational chemistry approaches such as molecular modelling, docking, pharmacophore analysis is preferred.  
  • Proficiency with one or more programming or scripting language is required. Examples may include Python, Jupyter Notebooks, Matlab  
  • Experience in generating data visualizations in tools like Spotfire, Vortex, Tableau, DataWarrior is preferred.

Quality Assurance Specialist

Overview of Position:  The Quality Assurance (QA) Specialist is primarily responsible for monitoring study specific and facility related documents, data, records, and files via inspections and audits. This QA Specialist will report to the VP, QA & Regulatory Affairs.  

Main Responsibilities: 

  • Maintains a current awareness of EPA, FDA, Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) regulations, and any other related NJ state and Federal regulations which may apply to company activities. 
  • Recommends changes or modifications to vivarium and laboratory procedures to facilitate compliance with PsychoGenics Program Description, IACUC protocols, program methods and SOPs. 
  • Conducts post-approval monitoring of rodent behavioral and technical procedures in alignment with approved IACUC protocols. 
  • Conducts in-life QC inspections of study test procedures for compliance and conformance to the approved IACUC protocol, the final study plan, and SOPs. 
  • Performs audits of study plans, study raw data, and final report audits for accuracy and completeness, verifying that the final report accurately reflects the raw data generated. 
  • Conducts inspections of facilities, vivarium, and laboratories, evaluating current practices and procedures. 
  • Additional responsibilities may also include participating in training activities and assisting with departmental administrative duties, as assigned. 
  • Conducts audits of employee training files. 
  • Prepares written records of all inspections and audits. 
  • Reports and submits findings to QA management regarding quality issues and status of inspection and audit activities. 
  • As applicable, submits findings to the principal investigator, the study director, or laboratory supervisor, indicating noncompliance and deviations from Program Description, IACUC protocol, study plan, methods, and SOPs. 
  • Assists in reviewing, writing, and maintaining up-to-date SOPs and controlled documents for the QA unit. 
  • Promotes company polices and operating procedures, to maintain a compliant and safe work environment. 
  • Other duties as assigned by QA management. 

Required Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences, or related field, with at least 5 years work experience. 
  • Broad preclinical rodent behavioral experience. 
  • Familiarity with GLP standards. 
  • Knowledge of EPA, FDA, GLP regulations, NJ state and Federal regulations, and commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the QA field. 
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure of multiple projects and deadlines.

Director EEG

Overview of Position: Team leader to work closely with executives involved in business development, interact with clients, prepare study plans, oversee experiments, and manage EEG group.   

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Manage PhD and Master level staff  
  • Design and develop experiments to analyze EEG pattern changes induced by pharmaceutical agents, gene KO/expression, seizure, and sleep 
  • Manage and oversee the in-life portion of the studies, including surgeries, dosing, and EEG recordings

  • Compile and analyze EEG data, including sleep-scoring, seizure detection and spectral analysis 
  • Develop clear visualizations to convey complicated data in a straightforward fashion

Principal Scientist, Medicinal Chemistry

About PsychoGenics:

PsychoGenics is a well-established preclinical Contract Research Organization (CRO) that provides comprehensive preclinical testing capabilities in CNS and orphan disorders.  PsychoGenics has established several automated behavioral platforms, including the SmartCube platform that provide phenotypic screening at an industrial level to support drug discovery programs. The Company has established a drug discovery group to exploit their technology platforms and is seeking to hire medicinal chemists at the Principal Scientist to Director levels. The appointees will report to the Vice President of Medicinal Chemistry. 

Overview of Position:   

The successful applicant will be an accomplished medicinal chemist with a proven track record, and who can develop and lead drug discovery projects, with a focus on developing novel small-molecule therapies for CNS disorders. Applicants will be expected to have strong technical and problem-solving skills in medicinal chemistry, ideally with expertise in the use of computational drug design to aid drug discovery. Proven experience of success in delivering clinical candidates and a deep understanding of pharmacokinetic and drug metabolism, CNS biology and pharmacology, will be expected. With good interpersonal skills, the successful applicant will take a leading role in interactions with collaborators, both within existing projects and in developing new research programs. Exceptional written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills and critical thinking skills will be required.  

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Act as chemistry project leader for PsychoGenics CNS projects and work closely with other members of the drug discovery group to identify and develop novel pre-clinical candidates 
  • Identify hit compounds and optimize them for in vitro, in vivo, and toxicological properties 
  • Use computationally assisted drug design (CADD) techniques to guide lead optimization studies 
  • Interact closely with key collaborators both internally and externally including biologists, pharmacologists, drug discovery and development organizations and develop and manage relationships with collaborators and partners 
  • Contribute to the dissemination of research results in the form of presentations at internal drug discovery meetings and external meetings  
  • Assist the VP with the management of additional PsychoGenics research programs, initiatives and projects 
  • Strong knowledge of patents and prior experience reviewing and/or drafting of patent applications 
  • Assist in growing the newly established drug discovery group at PsychoGenics 

Qualifications: 

  • PhD in chemistry or medicinal chemistry with 5-10 years or more experience in biotech or the pharmaceutical industry with a focus on small molecule drug discovery

Electrophysiologist

Overview of Position: 

Design, perform, and manage the communication and coordination of electrophysiological experiments for clients and internal drug discovery.  

Job Responsibilities:

  • Design and perform experiments using electrophysiology, specifically: 
  • Whole-cell patch-clamp recordings from striatum and other regions as needed (rat, mouse) 
  • Hippocampal slice LTP assay  
  • Writing proposals and pricing studies

Overview of Position:

PsychoGenics is seeking an exceptional Deep Learning Engineer with extraordinary record of academic and professional achievements to join our interdisciplinary team of biologists and computer scientists, to expand the group’s efforts applying machine learning to drug discovery, building models using biological data and develop novel platforms using AI. Director / Sr. Director - Drug Discovery

Overview of Position:  

We are seeking a Director / Senior Director in the discovery group who is a highly motivated scientist to join our team and work on-site at PsychoGenics in Paramus, New Jersey. The ideal candidate will possess broad expertise in neuroscience drug discovery and neuropharmacology, and will help drive internal small molecule drug discovery programs through designing appropriate preclinical studies towards clinical proof-of-concept and support the efforts of our partners. The qualified candidate will bring extensive knowledge in behavioral neuroscience and drug development to the scientific team and will report to the CSO. 

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Collaborate with the drug discovery group and key stakeholders to advance molecules from hit identification to preclinical candidate and eventually to clinical candidate status 
  • Design, execute and manage internal research projects 
  • Work with both internal and external research groups and manage the work of collaborators and CROs 
  • Develop new preclinical behavioral strategies to advance promising therapeutics into the clinic 
  • Develop scientific understanding and fluency of PsychoGenics SmartCube platform and work closely with the team to identify new disease/project opportunities that can be translated into new drug discovery projects.

Educational and Experience Requirements:
