                                          Electrophysiology
                                          1) Mechanism of Action and Target Validation:

This methodology offers direct, real-time measurements of neuronal cell function and cell-cell communication. A variety of intra- and extracellular recording techniques, both in vitro (tissue slices) and in vivo, coupled with discrete electrical stimulation and drug iontophoresis, can provide important mechanistic insight into drug action on selected ion channel targets, as well on synaptic transmission and intrinsic excitability in preparations where the neuroanatomy and micro-circuitry is preserved.

                                          2) Drug Evaluation / Secondary screening (Dynaflow / Patch Clamp):

Expression of selected ion channel targets in cell lines enables high-resolution functional discrimination between chemically related compounds, supporting hit-to-lead campaigns. This technology could be used to determine detailed pharmacology (eg. EC50 and IC50) for both voltage and/or ligand-gated channel targets.
