Body temperature and emotional state are closely related in humans, and stress-induced hyperthermia in rodents is considered to have predictive validity for certain human anxiety/stress disorders. This test assesses the effect of anxiolytics on stress-induced hyperthermia and measures the intrinsic effects of these drugs on core body temperature.

                                                                            (A)(B)
129SVEV mice are a good model for this test compared to C57BL/6J mice (A), while CDP alone does not affect basal temperature (B).
                                                                            (A)(B)
The 5-HT1A agonist, Buspirone, is seen to reduce stress induced hyperthermia (A) without having an effect on basal temperature (B).
                                                                            (A)(B)
The effects of 5HT1A agonists, 8-OH-DPAT (A) and Buspirone,(B) can be reversed by the selective 5HT1A antagonist, WAY-100635.
                                                                            (A)(B)
                                                                            (A) 5HT1A agonist (Buspirone)and Benzodiazepine, (Diazepam) (B) effect stress induced hyperthermia in wistar rats.
