Traumatic Brain Injury Model
Controlled Cortical impact (CCI) model in rats
- We have established the Controlled Cortical impact (CCI) model in rats. Injury is induced by mechanical trauma to cortex by a cortical impactor.
- We characterized the CCI model using behavioral parameters such as motor coordination and cognitive tasks.
- Non-behavioral measures such as edema can also be assessed following CCI.
Development of edema 24 hours after controlled cortical impact. CCI rats show significantly higher cortical water content compared to Sham rats. Data are presented as mean ± SEM. *p<0.05 as compared to Sham rats.
