Holeboard measures a mouse's ability to remember the location of 4 baited holes in a 16-hole chamber. This is used to assess both reference memory and spatial working memory performances. As with the morris water maze, this test evaluates, among other functions, the role of the hippocampus in spatial information processing.

The amount of time for mice to complete the task decreases over 4 days of training.

The total number of errors (including reference memory and working memory errors) decreases over 4 days of training.
