Anxiety – Four-Plate Test

The four–plate test is an unconditioned fear model of anxiety. Mice receive a mild foot shock which suppresses exploratory behavior of the new environment. Known anxiolytic compounds reduce shock-induced anxiety and increase the number of plate crossings.

Benzodiazepines, such as alprazolam (0.1 – 0.3 mg/kg; ip) and chlordiazepoxide (10 mg/kg; ip) induce anxyolitic effect as indicated by increased number of punished crossings in mice.
