This test has predictive validity for Mania and Bipolar disorder. Models for bipolar disorder are scarce and hyperactivity based studies are often used to mimic the mania/psychosis associated with bipolar.

Anticonvulsant agents used in treating bipolar in humans, such as Valproate, Lithium, and Lamotrigine, can selectively attenuate amphetamine/CDP-induced hyperactivity in mice without affecting locomotor activity induced by amphetamine alone, as can be seen when measured with total distance travelled (A) and distance travel over time (B).
